Trump on hurricanes: ‘It’s just one after another’

President Trump on Wednesday lamented a string of hurricanes that have battered the U.S. over the last month.

“It’s just one after another,” he said during a meeting with the king of Jordan at the United Nations in New York.

Trump mentioned Hurricane Maria, which made landfall in Puerto Rico early Wednesday as a powerful Category 4 storm.

“We have a big one coming right now,” he said. “I’ve never seen winds like this, Puerto Rico, you take a look at what’s happening there.”

Maria is just the latest storm to cause widespread destruction in the U.S.

Texas suffered historic flooding late last month as a result of Hurricane Harvey, while Hurricane Irma devastated Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and parts of Florida.

Forecasters say even more major storms are possible this hurricane season.

Trump has received bipartisan praise for his administration’s response to the storms. But he has come under pressure to acknowledge a link between climate change and the frequency of intense hurricanes.

The president denied such a connection exists, saying storms in the early 20th century were worse.

“Well, we’ve had bigger storms than this,” he told reporters last week.
