Bannon to attend rally, receive award in St. Louis

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is set to attend a rally and receive a conservative leadership award on Sunday, The Associated Press reported.

Bannon will be awarded the Phyllis Schlafly Eagle Award during a luncheon conference, according to the report.

Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles, praised Bannon as “a proven political force” who played a pivotal role in last year’s election.

“His leadership of the Trump 2016 campaign showed us not only that he is a true movement conservative, but that he knows how to cut through the establishment ‘kingmaker’ clutter and message directly to the American people,” Martin said in a news release, according to the report.

Schlafly is famous for leading the movement to oppose the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s. As one of its most visible opponents, she spoke out against the pro-feminist push and advocated that American women stick with their traditional roles.

Internal disagreements sprung forth among board members after Schlafly backed the controversial Republican candidate shortly before her death at the age of 92, ultimately leading the Phyllis Schlafly Eagles to break away from Eagle Forum over the differences in presidential preferences.

Bannon is also attending a rally in St. Louis on Sunday, the AP reported.

The rally comes at a time when St. Louis has been the center of major protests and demonstrations, which erupted across the city after a white former police officer was acquitted in the killing of a black suspect earlier this month. Over 160 people have been arrested since the verdict was first announced.

Bannon returned to Breitbart News last month after exiting from his top White House post.
