Conway sells polling firm to conservative PR company

A major public relations company has purchased White House counselor Kellyanne Conway’s polling firm. 

Virginia-based CRC Public Relations, which lists conservative groups such as the Federalist Society among its clients, announced Thursday that it had acquired The Polling Company, the GOP polling firm headed by Conway for more than two decades.

“The Polling Company is a natural fit for CRC,” the firm’s president, Greg Mueller, said in a statement. “It is an established brand with a strong reputation among conservatives, Republicans, public policy organizations, corporations and associations.”

The terms of the acquisition, including the selling price, were not disclosed by CRC. But according to a document released by the Office of Government Ethics in August, Conway had valued her 100 percent stake in the firm at between $1 million and $5 million.

Conway resigned from The Polling Company after she accepted a post in President Trump’s White House. Bloomberg reported last month that she had begun taking steps to sell the firm this summer, and received permission to defer capital gains taxes.

Executive branch employees are allowed to defer such taxes when they are required to sell assets in order to comply with federal conflict-of-interest laws.
