DeVos faces silent protesters during Harvard speech

Demonstrators gathered at Harvard University on Thursday to silently protest at an event featuring Education Secretary Betsy DeVos in the wake of the Trump administration’s new policy on sexual assault on college campuses. 

DeVos was met with signs reading “protect survivors” and “our students are not 4 sale” as she addressed a crowd at the Ivy League school, according to Reuters.

Some students reportedly sat silently and raised their fists during the event. 

While the protests reportedly remained quiet during the event, demonstrators chanted “This is what white supremacy looks like!” as DeVos left the room. 

{mosads}The demonstrations come after DeVos announced her decision to rewrite Obama-era guidelines on the handling of sexual assault on university campuses. 

DeVos said that the previous administration’s guidance did not ensure enough protection for the accused. 

“We want to ensure that students know that they are going to be treated fairly and that we are going to put a process in place that’s going to be fair for all of them,” DeVos told Fox News’s Martha MacCallum on Tuesday. 

The secretary has said the Education Department would aim to team up with universities to take additional preventative measures against sexual assault on U.S. campuses.
