President Trump on Tuesday said he believes his administration has done just as well on the recovery efforts in Puerto Rico as it has in Florida and Texas.
“I think it’s now acknowledged what a great job we’ve done. And people are looking at that day. And in Texas and in Florida we get an A+. And I’ll tell you what, I think we’ve done just as good in Puerto Rico, and it’s actually a much tougher situation,” Trump told reporters.
Trump has received criticism from some Democratic lawmakers for the relief efforts in Puerto Rico, which was ravaged by two hurricanes last month. A group of Democratic senators in a Tuesday letter to Trump called on him to send relief to and concentrate on efforts for the islands of Vieques and Culebra.
{mosads}During his Tuesday morning remarks, Trump praised the first responders working on the island.
“But I will tell you, the first responders, the military, FEMA, they have done an incredible job in Puerto Rico,” he said.
The president also once again commended Puerto Rico’s Gov. Ricardo Rosselló.
“I appreciate very much the governor and his comments. He has said we have done an incredible job and that’s the truth,” Trump said.
Trump praised Rosselló over the weekend, comments which came amidst his criticism of San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, who he said exhibited “poor leadership.”
