Pence directs press to WH on Trump’s ‘calm before the storm’ remark

Vice President Pence reportedly dodged questions from reporters on Friday about President Trump’s remark about a “calm before the storm,” referring questions to the White House.

“I’d refer you to the White House on any exposition on that,” Pence told reporters on his trip to Puerto Rico, according to reporters.

Trump made the initial comment on Thursday evening while taking a photo with first lady Melania Trump and a gathering of military leaders at the White House. 

Trump pointed around the room and asked the assembled reporters, “You guys know what this represents?”

“Tell us,” one reporter said.

“Maybe it’s the calm before the storm,” Trump replied.

A second reporter asked Trump if the “storm” was in reference to action regarding Iran or the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“We have the world’s greatest military people,” Trump responded. A third reporter again asked Trump what the “storm” was, to which Trump replied, “You’ll find out.”

Trump’s comments come amid speculation that he will decertify the Iran nuclear agreement. It also comes amid heightened tensions over North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.
