Conway: Corker tweet criticizing Trump ‘incredibly irresponsible’

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Monday called Sen. Bob Corker’s (R-Tenn.) Twitter criticism of President Trump “incredibly irresponsible.”

During an appearance on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends,” host Brian Kilmeade brought up the feud, which reached personal levels over the weekend.

“What a demeaning tweet at the president,” Kilmeade said, referencing a comment from Corker that described the White House as “an adult day care center.”

“Well it is, and world leaders see that. We’ve all worked with Sen. Corker over the years. We thank him for his service, but I find tweets like this to be incredibly irresponsible,” Conway told the hosts.

“It adds to the insulting that the mainstream media and the president’s detractors — almost a year after this election they still can’t accept the election results — it adds to their ability and their cover to speak about a president of the United States, the president of the United States, in ways that no president should be talked about.”

Conway’s comments follow a Sunday back-and-forth between Trump and Corker, who fired back at Trump after the president said the Tennessee lawmaker “didn’t have the guts to run” for reelection. Trump also claimed Corker sought his endorsement, which Trump said he declined to provide.

“It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center,” Corker wrote on Twitter after Trump’s initial tweets Sunday morning. “Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.”

Corker’s chief of staff later said that Trump urged the senator to run for reelection and offered his endorsement.

Conway during the Monday morning television appearance added that Corker was at the White House “for a private meeting” two weeks ago.

“So that door has been open. We are relying upon Senator Corker, but so are the people of Tennessee, for him to get big things done in the remaining months of his tenure,” she said.
