At least 26 people have died and several others are injured after a gunman opened fire on Sunday at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, which is about 35 miles east of San Antonio.

Police have identified the shooter as Devin Kelley, 26. Kelley was court-martialed in 2012 for assaulting his then-wife and child, and was he discharged from the Air Force two years later.
Authorities said Kelley’s mother-in-law attended the church, and she had received threatening text messages from him prior to the shooting.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said Monday that Kelley had been denied a state gun permit.
President Trump, who is in the early stages of a 13-day trip to Asia, said Monday that the shooting was the result of a mental health issue, not “a guns situation.”
