Poll: Biden leads Trump by 11 points in potential 2020 matchup
Former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Trump in a potential 2020 matchup by 11 points, according to a new poll.
A Politico-Morning Consult poll finds 46 percent of voters would support Biden in a potential 2020 matchup, compared with 35 percent who would back Trump.
White voters are largely divided in the matchup, with 41 percent saying they would support Biden and 40 percent backing Trump. Biden has a 9-point lead over Trump in the potential matchup in the Midwest.
{mosads}In a race between Trump and a generic Democrat, the poll finds the Democrat leads by a slightly larger percentage, 48 to 34 percent.
The poll was conducted from Nov. 9 to 11 among 1,993 registered voters. Its margin of error is 2 percentage points.
Biden has been asked about the potential for a 2020 bid in several recent interviews. He has said he is “not closing the door” on a third White House run.
“I honest to God haven’t made up my mind about that,” Biden, who turns 75 later this month, said to NBC’s Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer in a recent interview.
“I’m not closing the door. I’ve been around too long.”
