Trump predicts Rubio will vote for tax plan

President Trump predicted Thursday that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) will ultimately vote for the Republican tax plan. 

“I think that Sen. Rubio will be there for sure,” Trump told reporters at the White House after a speech on deregulation. 

The president called “a great guy” who has been “very supportive” of his agenda.

Trump spoke minutes after Rubio threatened to vote against the tax bill, which endangered its chances of passing before Christmas. 

Rubio has told Senate leaders he will vote against the bill unless the child tax credit is made more generous to help low-income workers who pay payroll taxes and not regular income taxes. 

Trump expressed confidence the issue would not derail the timing of the Senate vote, which is expected to take place next week. 

“It’ll be the greatest Christmas present that many people have ever received. It’ll be something special,” he said.
