White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday ripped those who have questioned whether President Trump is mentally fit for office, calling such speculations “absolutely outrageous.”
On “Fox & Friends,” Sanders said that she thinks it’s “absolutely insane” for people to diagnose somebody that they’ve never spoken to.
“It’s absolutely outrageous to make these types of accusations and it’s simply untrue, and it’s sad that people are going and making these desperate attempts to attack the president,” she said. “What I think is really mentally unstable is people that don’t see the positive impact that this president is having on the country.”
Although Trump critics have questioned his mental fitness throughout his presidency, questions have intensified after the release of excerpts from Michael Wolff’s explosive new book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.”
{mosads}In the book, Wolff writes that Trump’s aides are concerned about his mental stability and believe that he is “incapable of functioning in his job.”
According to a Politico report, more than a dozen lawmakers were recently briefed by a Yale University psychiatry professor about Trump’s mental fitness.
Trump’s recent tweet about North Korea, in which he wrote that his “nuclear button” is “much bigger & more powerful” than North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s, also prompted questions from reporters in two consecutive press briefings about his mental fitness.
Sanders fired back at those questions, saying that Trump is an “incredibly strong and good leader.”
“It’s disgraceful and laughable,” Sanders told reporters Thursday. “If he was unfit, he probably wouldn’t be sitting there.”
