Hundreds of reviewers on Yelp in recent days have given the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., one star and described it as a “shithole.”
Between Thursday and Monday, nearly 800 reviews were posted that used the word “shithole” to described the hotel, according to CNN, which cited New Knowledge, a company that tracks the spread of misinformation online.
At the top of hotel’s page, Yelp says the business is “being monitored by Yelp’s support team for content related to media reports.”
{mosads}The hotel currently has an average rating of 2 stars on Yelp. It had an average rating of 4 stars just five days ago, CNN noted.
Trump’s hotels in Chicago and Hawaii, in addition to his Mar-a-Lago resort, also received negative comments on Yelp.
The reviews come after Trump last week reportedly referred to Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as “shithole countries” during an immigration meeting at the White House.
Trump faced widespread backlash and accusations of racism after the comments were first reported.
Trump has since pushed back against accusations of racism.
On Monday, he claimed Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) “totally misrepresented” his comments.
“Senator Dicky Durbin totally misrepresented what was said at the DACA meeting. Deals can’t get made when there is no trust!” Trump tweeted.
Durbin had confirmed a report in The Washington Post that Trump had made the remark, telling reporters that the president made “hate-filled, vile and racist comments.”
A spokesman for Yelp told CNN that “these media storms are complicated situations that create a dilemma for Yelp.”
“But we’ve chosen to take a strong and consistent stance on managing them,” the spokesman added.
