Trump expected to invite Macron for first state visit: report

President Trump is planing to invite French President Emmanuel Macron for an official state visit to Washington, D.C., later this year, CNN reported Monday.

It would be the first state visit of Trump’s presidency.

The announcement could come as early as this week, while the president participates in the World Economic Forum in Davos, two diplomatic sources told CNN.

The White House has not formally made an announcement, nor has a date for the visit been nailed down, according to the report.{mosads}

“We don’t have an announcement to make at this time,” the White House told CNN. The first lady’s office did not return the outlet’s request for comment.

While the White House has hosted multiple world leaders during Trump’s first year in office, Macron would receive the first ceremonial welcome a state visit traditionally involves, including a state dinner.

Trump is the first president in decades who has not hosted an official state visit during his first year in office.

The two world leaders appeared warm and friendly during Trump’s own visit to France last year, but Macron has publicly broken with Trump on multiple issues, including the U.S.’s exit from the Paris climate accord and Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
