White House announces participants for school safety panel

The White House on Thursday announced the participants for President Trump’s meeting with local officials on school safety in the wake of last week’s high school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

The 10 participants include local law enforcement officials, school board members and local government leaders. All but one is either a Republican or does not identify with a party for their office.

The participants are

• Kentucky police Commissioner Rick Sanders
• Florida Education Commissioner Pam Stewart
• Arkansas Division of Behavioral Health Deputy Director Paula Stone
• Henderson County, N.C., Sheriff Charles McDonald (R)
• Colorado state Rep. Patrick Neville (R)
• Former New York MTA police chief James O’Donnell (R)
• Bartow County, Ga., school board member Fred Kittle
• Parkland Mayor Christine Hunschofsky (D)

It is the second meeting in as many days Trump has held in response to last week’s shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where a gunman killed 17 people and injured several others.

On Wednesday, Trump, Vice President Pence and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos met with parents, students and family members with a connection to past school shootings, including survivors of the Florida shooting.
