World’s youngest billionaire: Trump’s immigration rhetoric is keeping entrepreneurs away

The world’s youngest billionaire said Tuesday that President Trump’s anti-immigration rhetoric is making it difficult for U.S. companies to recruit workers from other countries.

John Collison, the 27-year-old co-founder of Stripe, a payment processing company for online businesses, told the BBC that his business has faced a hurdle in recruiting software developers.

{mosads}“People are less willing to move to the United States, they don’t even want to even enter the visa process because of what they perceive to be the political climate and how welcoming the country is towards immigrants,” he said.

Stripe has more than 700 employees in California, according to the BBC.

Collison, who is Irish, said he thinks Brexit will have the same effect that Trump’s rhetoric has had in the U.S.

The tech industry has been an outspoken critic of Trump’s travel ban and his other hard-line immigration policies.

The Trump administration is considering cracking down on the visas that allow scientists and engineers to work in the U.S. for American firms, alarming Silicon Valley companies.
