Trump’s legal team considering possible conflicts of interest for diGenova: report
Possible conflicts of interest are leaving the future of veteran Washington attorney Joseph diGenova’s role on President Trump’s legal team uncertain, according to a CNN report on Friday.
DiGenova’s hiring was announced on Monday, just days before John Dowd, who led the team helping Trump navigate special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election meddling, resigned on Thursday. DiGenova has been considered a possible front-runner to replace Dowd.
{mosads}But concerns have arisen about potential conflicts of interest for both diGenova and his wife and law partner, Victoria Toensing, who was also under consideration to join the team, according to CNN. One source told the news network that no one had officially been hired.
The potential conflicts were flagged to Trump’s legal team by Dowd before he resigned, CNN reported.
“There is an ongoing process regarding potential conflicts,” Trump attorney Jay Sekulow told The Hill.
Toensing also represents Mark Corallo, a former spokesman for Trump’s legal team, who has spoken to Mueller’s team about the president and his aides’ response to revelations last year that Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., met with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in 2016.
Other attorneys are reportedly also under consideration to replace Dowd on the legal team, with multiple reports indicating Trump is looking to shake up his personal legal team.
