President Trump on Tuesday touted a Republican tax bill that he described as a “win” for American workers, as millions prepared to file their returns.
In the op-ed published by USA Today, Trump took credit for securing higher paychecks for Americans, creating jobs in the U.S. and simplifying a tax code that he said was previously “burdensome, complex and extremely unfair.”
“This is the last year Americans will fill out outdated, complicated tax forms,” Trump wrote.
“In the years ahead, because I signed one of the largest tax cuts in history and the most sweeping tax reform in a generation, many Americans will complete their taxes on a simple, single sheet of paper.”

“Remarkably, Congress had to pass this critical legislation without a single Democrat’s vote,” he added.
The op-ed, intended to mark Tax Day, boasted that companies, including tech giant Apple and auto manufacturer Fiat Chrysler, had vowed to invest and create jobs in the U.S. as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the GOP-led legislation signed into law by Trump in December.
The measure significantly slashed the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent and offered a series of more modest, temporary individual tax cuts.
“On this Tax Day, America is strong and roaring back,” Trump wrote. “Paychecks are climbing. Tax rates are going down. Businesses are investing in our great country. And most important, the American people are winning.”
Critics of the bill, however, have argued that it amounts to a windfall for the wealthiest Americans while failing to meet the country’s revenue needs.
Trump also touted the tax cuts in a pair of tweets on Tuesday morning, insisting in one that “Everyone is talking” about the measure.
