Iranian supreme leader: Trump ‘made maybe more than 10 lies in his comments’

The supreme leader of Iran on Wednesday ripped President Trump’s announcement of the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear pact with Tehran, saying his comments were full of lies.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denounced the speech as “silly and superficial” on his website, Reuters reported

“He had maybe more than 10 lies in his comments,” Khamenei said. “He threatened the regime and the people, saying ‘I’ll do this and that.’ Mr. Trump, I tell you on behalf of the Iranian people: You’ve made a mistake.”

{mosads} “This man will turn to dust and his body will become food for snakes and ants,” he added, according to the news service. “And the Islamic Republic will still be standing.”

Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 pact, which lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for curbs to its nuclear program, saying Tuesday that it was “a horrible, one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made.”

Trump also reimposed sanctions on Iran.

“I said many times from the first day: Don’t trust America,” Khamenei said, adding that he also didn’t trust Britain, France and Germany.

French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister Theresa May said in a joint statement on Tuesday that they are concerned about Trump’s decision to leave the agreement.

The leaders encouraged other nations to stick to the deal, but Khamenei said it wasn’t enough reassurance, Reuters reported.

“If you can’t get a definite guarantee, then the nuclear deal can not be continued,” he said.

On Tuesday, members of Iran’s parliament chanted “Death to America” and set fire to an American flag.
