Sanders: Attack on journalists is ‘an attack on every American’
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders condemned the deadly shooting at a Maryland newspaper Thursday, saying that a “violent attack on innocent journalists doing their job is an attack on every American.”
Sanders tweeted that the shooting was an “evil act of senseless violence,” adding that her “prayers are with the victims and their friends and families.”
Strongly condemn the evil act of senseless violence in Annapolis, MD. A violent attack on innocent journalists doing their job is an attack on every American. Our prayers are with the victims and their friends and families.

Officials said they have a suspect in the shooting in custody, but have not publicly identified him.
Sanders is often the main point of contact for journalists covering the White House, and has had a sometimes contentious relationship with the press.
President Trump tweeted earlier Thursday that his “thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families” after the shooting in Maryland.
Prior to departing Wisconsin, I was briefed on the shooting at Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Thank you to all of the First Responders who are currently on the scene.
