John Oliver: Trump tweet attacking Kavanaugh accuser was ‘one of the most s—head things I’ve seen’

Late-night host John Oliver on Sunday denounced President Trump’s tweet attacking the woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault as “one of the most shithead things I’ve seen.” 

“The president cast doubt on someone who says she was sexually assaulted while also sort of implying that her parents don’t love her,” Oliver said, referencing Trump’s tweet in which he claimed that “charges would have been immediately filed with local law enforcement” by Ford or her “loving parents” if the alleged attack occurred. 

“To borrow a phrase, that’s one of the most shitheaded things I’ve seen from the standpoint of shitheadedness,” Oliver said. 

I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!

“And to be very clear, there are many reasons why victims don’t file charges with the police including fear, humiliation and a suspicion that no one will believe them,” Oliver said. “This is a conversation that we’ve been having for decades.”

{mosads}Earlier in the show, Oliver had played a clip of Trump saying that Hurricane Florence was “one of the wettest we’ve ever seen from the standpoint of water.”

Christine Blasey Ford went public with an accusation against Kavanaugh last week, alleging that Kavanaugh forced himself on her, groped her and attempted to remove her clothes during a high school party in the 1980s before she was able to escape. 

Kavanaugh has strongly denied the allegations.

Trump’s tweet sparked the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport, which accompanied tweets from survivors of sexual assault explaining why did they did not immediately alert authorities. 

“Hey, @realDonaldTrump, Listen the f— up,” actress Alyssa Milano wrote on Twitter. “I was sexually assaulted twice. Once when I was a teenager. I never filed a police report and it took me 30 years to tell me parents.” 

Trump has repeatedly denounced the accusations against Kavanaugh as partisan, standing by his Supreme Court pick as a second woman on Sunday publicly accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

“Judge Kavanaugh is an outstanding person and I am with him all the way,” Trump told reporters ahead of a meeting at the United Nations in New York on Monday.
