Trump: If we lose majority in House, ‘we’ll probably just have to fight it out’

President Trump on Thursday acknowledged the possibility that Republicans could lose their House majority in the upcoming midterms, saying the GOP would “have to just fight it out” if that happens.

“If we lose the majority in the House, which is always a possibility, we will probably just have to fight it out, and it’s a shame,” he said during a phone interview on “Fox & Friends.”

Democrats, who would need to flip 23 seats, are favored to win back the House, according to prediction models.  FiveThirtyEight, for example, gives the Democrats almost an 80 percent chance to retake the House. 

Trump on Thursday left the door open to working with Democrats if they are to take control of the lower chamber.

“Now, can we get along? Maybe. There’s a possibility,” he said. “They want infrastructure, I want infrastructure. There’s something that can bring us together. We have a lot of things where there is commonality. And it’s possible that we’ll even get along. … We have a lot of things that they want and that I want.”

Trump predicted, however, that Republicans will be successful in the midterms.

“I see the spirit that the Republicans have and I really believe we’re going to be successful. In Pennsylvania they redistricted certain areas, which was really unfair, in my opinion. Really unfair,” he said, referring to Pennsylvania’s new congressional map.

“But I think there we’re going to do well. I think state-wise, I do very well in all these places we’re talking about. But it’s not about me right now, it’s about individual races. I see things happening that are very good,” Trump added.
