State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert under consideration to replace Haley at UN: report

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert is under consideration to replace Nikki Haley as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, according to a new report.

Two sources familiar with the selection process told Fox News that Nauert is a “leading contender” for the position.

Fox reports that Nauert met with President Trump in the Oval Office on Monday, though the details of their discussion are not known.

{mosads}Besides Nauert, several other potential replacements have been named, including U.S. Ambassador to France Jamie McCourt.

Trump has said earlier this month that he would prefer a woman to replace Haley as ambassador to the U.N.

Nauert, a former Fox News host, became the State Department’s spokeswoman in April of last year. Earlier this year, she was also named acting undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs after Steve Goldstein was dismissed from the post.

Haley resigned as ambassador to the U.N. earlier this month, saying she wanted to “take a break” from public service.
