Trump plans news conference Wednesday morning to discuss midterm results

President Trump will hold a news conference on Wednesday morning, when he will speak with reporters as the GOP deals with the fallout from the midterm elections.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced in a tweet that Trump will appear at 11:30 a.m. in the East Room. The president added later that the news conference would focus on “our success in the midterms!”

{mosads}Republicans lost control of the House in Tuesday’s midterms, but appear poised to add to their majority in the Senate.

With 23 House races still not officially decided, Democrats have won 219 seats and Republicans have won 193, enough to secure a Democratic majority for the next two years.

In the Senate, Republicans hold a 51-47 lead over Democrats, with GOP candidates leading races that are too close to call in Montana and Arizona.

The White House has portrayed the results positively, with Trump calling them a “tremendous success” and “big victory.”

Several Senate Republican candidates Trump boosted in the final days of the campaign emerged victorious, including Josh Hawley in Missouri and Mike Braun in Indiana.

However, dozens of Trump-backed GOP candidates lost House, Senate and gubernatorial races, including Sen. Dean Heller (Nev.), Senate candidate John James (Mich.), Reps. Rod Blum (Iowa), Pete Sessions (Texas), John Faso (N.Y.), Claudia Tenney (N.Y.), Dave Brat (Va.), Randy Hultgren (Ill.) and Keith Rothfus (Pa.), Gov. Scott Walker (Wis.) and others.
