CNN’s Camerota battles with Conway over whether midterms were a loss for Trump

CNN host Alisyn Camerota sparred with White House counselor Kellyanne Conway early Wednesday over whether the results from Tuesday’s midterm elections could be considered a win for the Trump administration

“You still lost the House,” Camerota told Conway, interrupting her as she argued that voters care about the booming economy.

“Right, that was to be expected, ” Conway speaking over Camerota. “Not the way President Obama lost it, 63 House seats. Not a shellacking.”

{mosads}The GOP lost control of the House in Tuesday’s midterms, though it added seats to its majority in the Senate.

In the 2014 midterms during Obama’s presidency, Republicans added 63 House seats to their majority and took the Senate with a 6-seat gain.

“I understand, but that was a much tougher economy,” Camerota began to respond to Conway.

“He lost because of ObamaCare,” Conway interjected.

“So the economy is going really well and you still lost the House,” Camerota continued. “So clearly, voters are displeased with something.”

“No, that’s a historical trend, but this president’s engagement and the vice president’s engagement helped mitigate those trends,” Conway said.

Conway noted that the president has done 53 rallies for candidates since he was elected and 30 since Labor Day this year.

“He packs the houses, I know the big question is, ‘We see all these people here but will they vote?'” she said. “Yes, they went and they voted.”

“Especially in states where he showed up and he endorsed the candidates and he was talking about politics each and every time.”

Trump on Wednesday lauded the midterm results, pointing to his own influence as a key part of GOP victories.

“Those that worked with me in this incredible Midterm Election, embracing certain policies and principles, did very well. Those that did not, say goodbye!” Trump tweeted.

“Yesterday was such a very Big Win, and all under the pressure of a Nasty and Hostile Media!”
