Documents indicate detailed plans for Trump Tower Moscow: report
BuzzFeed News has obtained files that the news outlet says contradict President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s recent claims that there were “no plans” drawn up for Trump Tower Moscow.
The online outlet reported on the files on Tuesday, after Giuliani in a New Yorker interview claimed that plans for Trump Tower Moscow did not extend beyond “a letter of intent.”
“The only thing that ever happened was that [Trump’s team] submitted a letter of intent about a possible project in Moscow that never went beyond that,” Giuliani said. “No money was ever paid, no plans were ever made. There were no drafts. Nothing in the file. Nothing ever happened to it.”{mosads}
The Moscow talks did result in what is known as a letter of intent — a nonbinding agreement that laid the groundwork for formal discussions about the project — which was previously published by CNN.
But other documents show that plans for Trump Tower Moscow were laid out by a number of different players, according to BuzzFeed News.
BuzzFeed News said documents the outlet has obtained over more than a year of reporting show that architects and developers drew up detailed plans for a possible Trump Tower Moscow.
A New York-based architect in 2015 completed plans for how the Russian property could look, imagining a building that could have been 100 stories high with prominent Trump logos, according to documents obtained by BuzzFeed News. The architect was reportedly in contact with Trump’s then-attorney Michael Cohen.
According to a letter of intent signed by Trump in September 2015, Trump Tower Moscow would hold “approximately 250 first class, luxury residential condominiums,” the online outlet reported.
A local developer was going to build Trump Tower Moscow, which could have included a spa and fitness facility dubbed “The Spa By Ivanka Trump,” according to BuzzFeed.
Giuliani over the weekend on NBC’s “Meet The Press” said that Trump remembered having conversations about the real estate project with his former attorney, Cohen, “throughout 2016” and “as far as October, November.” Giuliani by Monday sought to clarify those comments, maintaining they were “hypothetical and not based on conversations I had with the President.”
Cohen last November admitted that the talks about Trump Tower Moscow lasted until June 2016 — six months longer than he had previously claimed in congressional testimony — at which point Trump was the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
BuzzFeed News last week made waves with a report that Trump allegedly directed Cohen to lie before Congress about the plans to build Trump Tower Moscow and that Robert Mueller had evidence of the claim. BuzzFeed’s editors stood by the report after the special counsel office issued a rare statement claiming that unspecified elements of it were inaccurate.
Trump bashed BuzzFeed News late Friday after the special counsel’s office disputed the report.
“A very sad day for journalism, but a great day for our Country!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
