Charges dropped against woman accused of Kellyanne Conway assault

The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office has dropped charges against a woman accused of assaulting White House counselor Kellyanne Conway in a Bethesda, Md., restaurant, according to WJLA.

Mary Inabinett was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conducted after allegedly grabbing Conway’s arms from behind and screaming “Shame on you” last October at Uncle Julio’s, a Mexican restaurant in downtown Bethesda.

{mosads}Montgomery County Assistant State’s Attorney Kathy Knight said the charges would be dropped because Inabinett has no criminal record and did not injure Conway. Knight also said Inabinett has written an apology letter to Conway but did not make clear whether the letter was a condition of the charges being dropped or whether it was part of the public record.

“Dropping the charges is the best decision for this set of circumstances,” prosecutors said. Neither Conway nor Inabinett attended the hearing.

Conway first spoke about the incident in February, saying Inabinett was “unhinged.”

“She ought to pay for that because she has no right to touch anybody,” Conway told CNN. “She put her hands on me.”

“Our Assistant State’s Attorney in court told the presiding judge that Ms. Inabinett has given a written apology to Ms. Conway. And, that while there was touching, it was minor in nature and did not rise to the level of a prosecution. We believe this resolution is the best result for all concerned considering the evidence, circumstances and nature of this incident,” Ramon Korionoff, public affairs director for the State’s Attorney’s Office, said in a statement to The Hill.

The Hill has also requested comment from the White House.
