Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), President Biden and Vice President Harris arrives for an event to introduce the Office of Gun Violence Prevention in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, DC., on Friday, September 22, 2023.

Vice President Harris on Wednesday argued that Republicans have nothing to run on and so turn to criticizing President Biden over his age.

“So why are they doing it?” she said, referring to Republicans bashing Biden’s age. “Because they have nothing to run on. They have nothing to run on.”

“Sadly, there is a push from so many people in that lane to try to divide our country and distract from the real issues,” she said during an appearance on ABC’s “The View.”

Biden, 81, has taken hits from Republicans and others who question if he has the mental and physical ability to continue the job as president. If reelected, he would be 86 at the end of a second term.

Harris said that foreign leaders ask Biden for advice, suggesting they don’t question his mental acumen.

“I’ve been in the Oval Office where heads of various countries — allies — have called literally to ask Joe Biden for his advice,” Harris said.

And she argued that while Republicans have nothing to run on, Democrats have the many accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration. She noted in particular that the administration is investing in combating the climate crisis and investing in infrastructure improvements in the U.S.

“We have a president in Joe Biden, who is forward thinking in a way that we’ve not seen in a long time,” the vice president said.

First lady Jill Biden also recently defended her husband’s age, saying in an interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that it’s an “asset.”

Questions swirled among Democrats over whether Biden, the oldest president in U.S. history, is too old to run for reelection before he officially launched his campaign in April.
