Biden to address party conference

President Biden will address House Democrats Thursday at the party’s annual conference, the White House confirmed.

It’s the third time Biden will speak as president at the House Democratic Caucus Issues Conference, where lawmakers will gather to devise strategy and messaging, ahead of the 2024 election.

The retreat will take place at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Va., outside of Washington, D.C., Politico reported.

At the conference last year, lawmakers prepared for Biden to announce his 2024 campaign. During a meeting before the retreat, Biden reportedly told House Democrats there was “a lot of unfinished business.”

In 2022, Biden addressed members ahead of the midterm elections, where he urged members to press key pieces of his agenda and attempt to hold on to its narrow majorities in the House and Senate.

As negotiations over the bipartisan border deal continue, and in the wake of recent U.S. military airstrikes in Iraq and Syria amid the Israel-Hamas war, Biden will likely use the conference to rally Democrats around his reelection campaign ahead of this fall.

Democrats are expected to rally around Biden’s run against the likely GOP nominee, former President Trump.

The White House confirmed Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris will make an appearance at the conference on Wednesday to moderate a conversation discussing the administration’s “ongoing fight for fundamental freedoms,” Politico reported.
