Trump knocks Democrats on ‘Open Borders’
President Trump early Tuesday again took aim at Democrats, accusing the party of supporting “open borders” in a pair of tweets.
Trump tweeted that Democratic immigration policy would lead to “violent crime, drugs and human trafficking” as his administration battles public opinion over the treatment of refugees and asylum seekers held in detention facilities across the southern border.
{mosads}”Democrats want Open Borders, which equals violent crime, drugs and human trafficking. They also want very high taxes, like 90%. Republicans want what’s good for America – the exact opposite!” he tweeted.
“Too bad the Dems in Congress won’t do anything at all about Border Security,” the president continued. “They want Open Borders, which means crime. But we are getting it done, including building the Wall! More people than ever before are coming because the USA Economy is so good, the best in history.”

His latest tweets come a day after the Democratic-controlled House passed legislation that would provide more funding for humanitarian aid on the border, while not addressing loopholes and provisions in U.S. asylum policy that the White House has blamed for an influx of migrants.
“Today we have the opportunity to help the children at the border. This is a very important vote. It is not an immigration bill, so we cannot make any immigration promises in the bill. It is an appropriations bill, saying to the world, these children — they don’t have hygiene, they are not, in many cases, in their parents’ arms. We can make a big difference for them,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said, touting the bill during a meeting with Democrats on Tuesday.
Republicans in the House hammered Democratic leadership for ignoring the White House’s priorities with the legislation, which faces an unlikely path in the Senate. Trump has vowed to go forward with planned Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in 10 cities if Democrats do not reach a deal on asylum provisions within two weeks.
“You’ve got Border Patrol agents right now that are spending their money out of their own pockets to buy diapers for these young kids because the agency’s out of money, and Speaker Pelosi won’t bring a bill to the floor to address this crisis. Stop playing games. Stop playing games with the young kids,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said on Tuesday.
“Sure, you might have disagreements with the president. We’re not even talking about the broader issue of solving this problem and ending the magnet that’s bringing these kids here illegally,” he added.
