Outgoing press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday tweeted a goodbye message honoring her last day at the Trump White House, saying she will leave her post with her “head held high.”
“Today I’ll walk out the gates of the White House for the last time as Press Secretary with my head held high. It’s been the honor and privilege of a lifetime to work with President @realDonaldTrump and his amazing team the last three and a half years,” Sanders wrote on Twitter. “You’re the best…Thank you!”
{mosads}The fierce Trump defender announced earlier this month that she was leaving her position as the president’s spokeswoman after a tumultuous two years.
Trump praised her in a series of tweets shortly after sharing the news of imminent departure, calling her a “special person with extraordinary talents” and publicly encouraging her to one day run for governor of her home state of Arkansas.
The president is not in Washington to see her off on his last day, as he is attending the Group of 20 summit in Japan.
Sanders frequently clashed with the White House press corps and has been criticized for not holding enough press briefings under her tenure.
The last press briefing Sanders held at the White House was nearly 100 days ago — on March 11 — and lasted just 14 minutes.
Stephanie Grisham, the top spokesperson for first lady Melania Trump, has been selected as Sanders’s replacement.
She will be Trump’s third press secretary since taking office, following Sean Spicer, who was on the job for roughly six months before her.
