Trump rips de Blasio after he ends White House bid: ‘NYC is devastated, he’s coming home’
President Trump on Friday mocked New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) after he ended his bid for the White House, calling him a “part time mayor” and saying that New York City was “devastated, he’s coming home!”
{mosads}“Oh no, really big political news, perhaps the biggest story in years! Part time Mayor of New York City, @BilldeBlasio, who was polling at a solid ZERO but had tremendous room for growth, has shocking dropped out of the Presidential race. NYC is devastated, he’s coming home!” Trump tweeted Friday morning.

De Blasio announced that he was ending his campaign Friday morning on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“I feel like I have contributed all I can to this primary election. It’s clearly not my time, so I’m going to end my presidential campaign, continue my work as mayor of New York City, and I’m going to keep speaking up for working people,” de Blasio said.

In an op-ed for NBC News released shortly after his announcement, de Blasio encouraged the Democratic Party to focus on “bold solutions that speak to the concerns of working people” to avoid losing to Trump in the 2020 election.
“Yes, Donald Trump lies to working people, but he at least pretends to talk to them. That may be enough for him to win, if we do not constantly make it clear that the Democrats are the party of everyday Americans in rural counties and urban centers, the coasts and the heartland,” de Blasio wrote.
Last month, de Blasio brushed off his low poll numbers in an interview with CNN, saying most Democratic voters are “going to make their decision late” in the primary process.
