Trump to award Medal of Freedom to former Attorney General Edwin Meese
President Trump will present the Medal of Freedom to former Attorney General Edwin Meese, the White House announced Monday.
The president will honor Meese on Tuesday during a ceremony at the White House. Meese, 87, served as attorney general during the Reagan administration and has been a member of multiple conservative think tanks, including The Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society.{mosads}
The Medal of Freedom is awarded by the president to citizens who make an “especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, or world peace, or cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
Trump has largely bestowed the honor upon athletes and prominent conservatives.
Among the recent recipients are golfer Tiger Woods, baseball player Mariano Rivera, basketball players Bob Cousy and Jerry West, former Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and economist Arthur Laffer.
