Trump congratulates Washington Nationals on World Series win

President Trump on Thursday congratulated the Washington Nationals after the team won its first World Series in franchise history.

“Congratulations to the Washington Nationals on a great season and an incredible World Series. Game 7 was amazing!” Trump tweeted.

The Nationals defeated the Houston Astros, 6-2, in Wednesday night’s decisive game to win the World Series. It marked the first time a Washington baseball team has won a championship since the 1924 Washington Senators.

{mosads}Trump attended Game 5 of the World Series at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, where he was loudly booed by the crowd when he was shown on the scoreboard. He attended the game with a cohort of Republican lawmakers. The group watched the game from a private suite.

The team is expected to hold its celebratory parade in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.

It’s unclear if the Nationals will visit the White House to celebrate their title. The typically apolitical tradition has been fraught with controversy during the Trump administration, with some teams and individual players opting not to attend and Trump disinviting others.

Each of the past two World Series champions since Trump took office — the Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox — celebrated with Trump at the White House, though some players skipped the visit in each case.
