Pompeo launches personal Twitter account amid speculation over Senate run
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday launched a personal Twitter account amid speculation that he will ultimately run for Senate in his home state of Kansas.
Pompeo, a former Army officer, started the account with a picture of a “Beat Navy” button, referencing the Army-Navy football game scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment if Pompeo will be traveling with President Trump to attend the game. The secretary attended last year’s Army-Navy matchup.
Speculation has mounted that Pompeo, who represented Kansas in the House of Representatives before joining the Trump administration, would leave his post to run for Senate in the Sunflower State.
Pompeo has dismissed the speculation, but Trump said he could run if he thought Republicans were in jeopardy of losing the seat being vacated by retiring Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts.
“Mike would win easily in Kansas,” the president said last month. “He came to me and said ‘Look, I’d rather stay where I am,’ but he loves Kansas, he loves the people of Kansas. If he thought there was a chance of losing that seat, I think he would do that and he would win in a landslide.”
