Nearly half want congressional Democrats to have more influence than Trump: poll
Nearly half of Americans want Democrats in Congress to have more influence than President Trump on the direction of the country in the next year, according to a new Gallup poll published Thursday.
The numbers tilt away from the sentiment with previous presidents, according to the Gallup release.
Of those surveyed, 49 percent said that they thought Democrats in Congress should control the country’s reins, while 43 percent said that the president should hold more sway.
The Thursday poll comes shortly after one from earlier this week that showed Trump with his highest approval rating of his presidency, at 49 percent.
As with many polls during the Trump presidency, the splits along party lines are stark, as 89 percent of Republicans said that the president should have the greater influence and 89 percent of Democrats said that congressional Democrats should have the most influence.
The poll surveyed 1,014 adults from Jan. 2-15 with a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
