Trump officially withdraws nomination of ex-US attorney from Treasury post

The White House released a list of 15 nominees slated for Senate approval Wednesday, confirming that President Trump withdrew his original nomination for the Treasury Department’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial crimes.

On Tuesday it was reported that the president was expected to rescind his nomination of Jessie Liu, former U.S. Attorney for D.C., who presided over several high-profile cases, such as the case against former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone.

Liu was scheduled to testify before the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday.

The news comes a day after all four prosecutors in Stone’s case quit after the Department of Justice asked for a lighter sentence than what was recommended. Trump criticized the prosecutors and D.C. District Judge Amy Berman, whom Liu worked with, via Twitter on Tuesday evening.

Stone was convicted in November on seven counts of obstructing and lying to Congress and witness tampering related to his efforts to provide the Trump campaign inside information about WikiLeaks in 2016. Stone is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 20 by Judge Jackson, an Obama appointee.

On Wednesday the House Judiciary Committee announced that Attorney General William Barr will be testifying before the committee on March 31.
