Biden to meet with British PM Starmer at White House

President Biden will host British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House next Friday to discuss the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East, among other topics, the White House announced.

Biden and Starmer will meet Sept. 13, when the two will “have an in-depth discussion on a range of global issues of mutual interest,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

In addition to conflicts abroad and efforts to secure a cease-fire and hostage release deal in Gaza, the two will discuss “opportunities to strengthen U.S.-UK cooperation to secure supply chains and increase climate resilience. President Biden will underscore the importance of continuing to strengthen the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom,” Jean-Pierre added.

Both the U.S. and United Kingdom have been among the key partners in aiding Ukraine in its war against invading Russian forces, and the two allies have also pushed for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

It will mark the second time Biden has met with Starmer since he was elected prime minister in the Labour Party’s landslide victory in early July. But it will be the first time the two have met since Biden announced he would not seek a second term.
