President Trump on Monday said he may hold a small memorial service for his late brother Robert Trump at the White House at the end of the week.
“We’re looking at Friday. And we may do just a small service right here in the White House for my brother. We’re looking at doing that,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House to travel to Minnesota and Wisconsin.
“That would be, I think a great honor to him. I think he’d be greatly honored,” Trump added. “He was so proud of what we were doing and what we are doing for our country. So I think it would be appropriate.”
Robert Trump died Saturday at the age of 71. The president had visited his younger brother a day earlier in the hospital in New York City.
The president and members of the Trump family have in recent days spoken fondly of Robert and shared their memories.
“This was not, not a great weekend,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” earlier Monday. “It’s very hard. You knew it was going to happen, but still. When it happens, it’s a very tough thing. He was a great guy. He was a tremendous guy and he was my friend. I guess they say best friend, and that’s true.”
Robert Trump spent time working as an executive for the Trump Organization, though he had largely remained out of the spotlight.
He recently was in the news for leading a lawsuit on behalf of the Trump family seeking to stop the publication of a book by his and President Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, that was sharply critical of the president and the Trump family as a whole.
