Sarah Sanders on Trump’s reported war dead criticism: ‘Those comments didn’t happen’
Former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders denied reports that President Trump called U.S. service members who died in World War I “losers.”
“Those comments didn’t happen,” Sanders said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Tuesday, the day her memoir was published.
Sanders said she was present on the day Trump reportedly made the comments. Trump’s remarks were first reported by The Atlantic, and portions of the report were later confirmed by several news outlets.
Trump also denied the report regarding the comments he made about his canceled trip to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018.
Sanders told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that her memoir, “Speaking for Myself,” contrasts with accounts from other former Trump administration officials that are critical of the president. She said this is because hers was “honest” while dismissing books critical of Trump as coming from “disgruntled employees.”
“I think mine is actually the honest account,” she said. “You’re looking at people who have left as disgruntled employees, people who have tried to push their own agenda.”
Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen also has a book that is critical of the president out Tuesday, ABC noted.
“Having a difference of opinion is not a bad thing,” Sanders said. “I think that’s one of the reasons the president has been successful. He’s willing to listen to those people.”
