Republicans split on whether Trump should return to reality TV: poll

Republicans are split on the idea of President Trump returning to reality TV upon departing the White House, according to a Morning Consult survey released Tuesday.

Amid reports the president is considering a return to his pre-politics career, the poll found 48 percent of all voters called the notion either “probably” or “definitely” a bad idea. Twenty-six percent said it is a good idea, while 36 percent had no opinion.

Among Republican respondents, however, 38 percent called it a good idea and 31 percent said it was not. Thirty-one percent of Republicans polled had no opinion.

Democrats were far more uniformly opposed to the idea, with only 20 percent of those polled calling it a good idea and 61 percent labeling it a bad one. Nineteen percent of Democratic respondents had no opinion.

Asked about the appropriateness of a major TV network collaborating with Trump on such an effort, 29 percent of all voters polled said this would be “somewhat” or “very” appropriate, compared to 48 percent who said it would be inappropriate. Twenty-three percent had no opinion.

Forty-five percent of Republicans in the survey said such a move would be appropriate, compared to 26 percent who said it would be inappropriate. Twenty-nine percent had no opinion.

Democrats again led all other political categories in opposition to such a collaboration, with a full 66 percent of Democrats polled saying it would be an inappropriate move on the part of a network. Twenty percent said it would be appropriate, while 14 percent had no opinion.

Pollsters surveyed 1,995 registered voters between Dec. 18-20. The survey has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
