Mark Meadows joins Conservative Partnership Institute

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows is joining the Conservative Partnership Institute (CPI), the group announced Wednesday.

CPI, which seeks to connect conservatives in Washington and is led by former South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint (R), said Meadows was coming on as a senior partner.

“During my years in Congress and the White House, I repeatedly witnessed the great work of CPI to support conservatives on the Hill and in the Trump administration,” said Meadows. “Often flying under the radar, no group has played a more critical role in helping conservatives stay true to their principles in the hostile Washington swamp.”

DeMint said he was “excited” that Meadows is coming aboard, citing his experience both as a North Carolina congressman and founder of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and as a top aide to former President Trump.

“Mark has a proven record that demonstrates his ability to build coalitions and to turn conservative principles into policy despite great opposition from the liberal media and Beltway establishment. First, as a founder of the House Freedom Caucus that has become the most powerful group of conservatives in Congress and then as Chief of Staff to President Trump, who accomplished an astonishing record of conservative policy victories,” he said. “Mark has worked tirelessly with humility and optimism for nearly a decade to expand freedom and opportunity for all Americans, and we’re thrilled he will continue that work at CPI.”

It is unclear if Meadows, 61, has aspirations to run for another office, but holding a post at CPI will allow him to stay in the mix in GOP circles and help conservatives develop networks and staff as they make their ways into the corridors of power in Washington. Meadows is also still in contact with Trump, according to Axios, which was the first to report on Meadows’s hiring.

Meadows is the latest former official to find a position in Republican circles after serving in the Trump administration. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao both landed spots this week at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank.
