Jill Biden to offer input on helping reunite separated immigrant families: report

First lady Jill Biden and her staff will work with a task force and offer input on a project to help reunite immigrant families that have been separated at the border, according to CNN.

Three sources told the network that Biden and her team in the East Wing will play a part in reuniting children and their parents who were separated under a policy that was enforced under the Trump administration.

“As the first lady remarked on a ‘Charla’ with young Latinos earlier this week, her chief of staff, Ambassador Julissa Reynoso, will monitor the federal reunification effort given her background as a lawyer,” Biden spokesman Michael LaRosa told CNN.

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.

The parents of 611 children have yet to be located by lawyers to reunite the families, according to a court filing cited by CNN.

The Justice Department on Tuesday rescinded the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” border policy that led to separations of migrant families who entered the U.S. illegally.

Acting Attorney General Monty Wilkinson sent a new memo to federal prosecutors on Tuesday instructing them to return to the previous policy of deciding whether to pursue individual cases.

The rescission of the policy serves as one of the Biden administration’s first efforts to undo certain immigration restrictions during the Trump era.
