Fox anchor in Trump interview mistakenly says DHS chief resigns, quickly corrects
Fox anchor Harris Faulkner on Monday mistakenly reported that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas resigned in the middle of an interview with former President Trump.
After some brief confusion, Faulkner received a message from her production team that Mayorkas had not resigned. She quickly corrected her remarks and apologized for the mistake.
“Let’s clean up on aisle seven there, he has not resigned,” Faulkner said.
A Fox News spokesperson said the issue “stemmed from an audio issue in a virtual working environment.”
“We corrected the mistake and continued on with the interview,” the spokesperson said.
The moment was notable because Faulkner was in the middle of interviewing Trump, who has been bashing President Biden’s border policy.
The U.S. is in custody of at least 15,000 unaccompanied minors that have sought entrance to the country through the southern border since Biden took office.
Mayorkas visited a child migrant facility last week and he appeared on every Sunday news program to declare that the border is closed to illegal immigrants.
While interviewing Trump, Faulkner appeared to get a message about breaking news through her ear piece and then informed Trump that Mayorkas had resigned.
“That’s a big victory for our country,” Trump said.

Faulkner asked for a moment to confirm the news and clarify what was going on, looking away from the camera and listening into her ear piece before issuing the correction and the apology.
“I think it will eventually happen,” Trump responded.
