Almost two-third optimistic with nation’s future: poll

Nearly two-thirds of Americans are optimistic about the future with President Joe Biden as he reached his first 100 days in office, according to a new ABC News Poll.

The poll found that 64 percent of citizens are happy with the direction the country is going. That compares to the 36 percent who still are pessimistic about the notion.

This marks the first time since December 2006 where Americans have reached this height of optimism, according to the ABC poll. 

Fifty-two percent think it’s important that the federal government should spend money to help the economy, even if it increases taxes, while 47 percent said the tax rate should stay the same. 

The poll also found that 23 percent of people believe the country has been more united since Biden took office. Eighty-seven percent give Biden the credit for unity while 3 percent gave credit to Republicans leaders among the group, according to the poll. 

The poll surveyed 513 people from April 30 to May 1 and has a sampling error of 4.7 points.
