Poll: GOP’s Blackburn leads Democrat Bredesen by 5 points in Tennessee Senate race
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) leads former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen (D) by 5 points in the Tennessee Senate race heading into the final month of the campaign, according to a new poll.
A Fox News poll released Wednesday found that, among likely voters, Blackburn holds a 48-43 edge in the race to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.).
Blackburn holds a 17 point advantage among men, while Bredesen has a 5 point lead among women, according to the poll.
{mosads}While Blackburn has the edge among white voters, 54-37, Bredesen has an even stronger advantage among nonwhite voters, where he holds an overwhelming 72-19 lead, according to the poll.
The poll did not survey enough independent voters to determine who leads among that subgroup.
The poll surveyed 666 likely voters from Sept. 29-Oct. 2. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
The poll’s results show Blackburn with a wider edge than some other polling in the race. A RealClearPolitics average of polls shows Blackburn’s lead at less than 1 percentage point.
The Cook Political Report rates the contest as a “toss-up.”
President Trump held a rally in Tennessee earlier this week to drum up support for Blackburn.
