Obama pulled $32 million in January

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) raised $32 million in primary funds in the month of January, his campaign said Thursday.

{mosads}Campaign Manager David Plouffe said the campaign added 170,000 new donors in the month to bring the total to 650,000 for the election.

Plouffe stressed that the Democratic presidential contest could go on past Tuesday’s “national primary” contest in which more than 20 states will vote. The campaign is launching ads Friday in states holding contests in the week after the mass primary.

He tried to temper expectations, saying Clinton enters many of the states voting Tuesday with much higher name recognition and other advantages. But he also said the campaign is confident that it can compete around the country and achieve its delegate goals.

Plouffe added that the campaign is going after supporters of former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) “very, very hard.”

Edwards exited the race on Wednesday.
