Clinton camp predicts ‘tight’ finish in Ind., N.C.

Terry McAuliffe, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (N.Y.) national campaign chairman, said Tuesday he expects close finishes in the Indiana and North Carolina primaries as voters in those states were headed to the polls.

{mosads}“It’s going to be tight,” McAuliffe told The Hill.

Polls have shown a close race in Indiana with Clinton slightly ahead, while her rival and Democratic front-runner Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) is holding onto a slimming lead in North Carolina.

McAuliffe said the campaign’s gains in the Tar Heel State in recent days show a campaign on the move.

“Then it’s on to West Virginia,” he said.

Most analysts agree that Clinton needs at least a win in Indiana to continue whatever momentum she has earned with wins in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas.
