Clinton says she’s not seeking vice presidency

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-N.Y.) campaign, set to end Saturday, said Thursday that the former first lady is not angling to be presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama’s (Ill.) running mate.

{mosads}The campaign was responding to rumors and reports that Clinton was trying to work toward a spot on the ticket.

“While Sen. Clinton has made clear throughout this process that she will do whatever she can to elect a Democrat to the White House, she is not seeking the vice presidency, and no one speaks for her but her,” the campaign said in statement. “The choice here is Sen. Obama’s and his alone.”

Obama wrapped up the nomination Tuesday night, but Clinton has waited to concede. Many analysts wondered aloud if Clinton was waiting to try to leverage her success into a spot running with Obama.

Clinton is scheduled to address her supporters Saturday in Washington, where she will formally concede the nomination and pledge her support for Obama.
