Obama, Clinton have ‘productive’ discussion

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) met with recent rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) Thursday night and the two had a “productive discussion.”

{mosads}The two senators talked about “the important work that needs to be done to succeed in November,” according to a joint statement released by the Obama campaign.

The meeting is good news for Democrats who hope to quickly unite the party following the long primary fight between Obama and the former first lady. Clinton said she would formally quit the race Saturday and back Obama.

Adam Parkhomenko, leader of a group that wants the Illinois senator to pick Clinton as his running mate, said he was “thrilled” to hear that the two had met.

“We hope that Thursday night’s conversation is a step toward an Obama-Clinton ticket that will unify the party,” Parkhomenko stated.
