Obama camp: Rep. Boren ‘has his facts wrong’

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, in an internal memo, is disputing one Democratic congressman’s characterization of the Illinois senator’s record after the member went on the record Tuesday saying he would not endorse his party’s nominee.

{mosads}Rep. Dan Boren (D-Okla.) told The Associated Press that Obama is too liberal for his district, and he does not work well with Republicans despite his rhetoric.

In the internal memo, which was obtained by The Hill, the campaign lays out surrogate talking points and says that “unfortunately, Congressman Boren has his facts wrong.”

The document outlines a way for surrogates to refute charges that Obama does not have a history of reaching across the aisle, though it does not offer any suggested talking points for dealing with Boren’s charge that Obama is “the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate.”

The memo does, however, make a point of the fact that Boren’s father, a former governor and senator, has endorsed Obama.

“Sen. Obama appreciates the support of Dan Boren’s father, former governor and Sen. David Boren, who is one of Obama's key national security advisers and a model of tireless bipartisan leadership,” the memo says.
